Family News

Here is where we get to post current news of things going on within our family!

For example...
Joe just graduated from school and will be starting his new job soon as a X-Ray technician!  We are so excited to finally be done with school, and starting life in the big world!

Journals/How to add a journal entry

This is the label for Journals!  The whole reason we started this blog! Please make sure to follow these instructions to add a new Journal entry to the blog.  I don't want to simply copy and paste journals into a new post because that can be messy, and it will make the blog posts extremely long, and hard to format into a book, or to simply print new additions as they are added to the blog.

Our blog will not allow you to directly attach a document to the blog.  Stinky, I know.  However, there is a way around this.  We simply will create a Google document and then attach the web address of the document.  You can then download the document to your computer and Tadaa!  (If this is too tricky for you, just e-mail me the journals, and I will do this part for you!)  However, doing it for yourself is the best way to go!

Here are the instructions:

1) Type the journal into a word document.  (You can categorize this however you want.  I typically do a new word document for each new journal I type.  That way my documents aren't to large, and they easily follow the chronological order that Grandma wrote them in!)  Make sure they are saved and titled in a way that you can find and identify them easily!

2) Go to www.docs.google.com or click here.

3) Log in with your Google account information (this is the same for your gmail, blogger, google plus, etc...)

4) On the main screen, click on the upload button (it is right next to the button labeled "create")

5) Click "files"

6) Find the document/file that contains the Journal entry and click "open"

7) Click on the title of the new Google document, it will open the document, at the top of the page there is a button titled "open." Click on it.

8) You will now be in a new page with a new web address.  Copy and paste the web address

9) Now you are ready to add the document to the blog. Simply create a new post, and add the link to the blog. You do this by clicking the "link" button at the top of the post and adding the web url where it tells you to.  If you are confused, you can click this link to learn how to add a link. https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/41379?hl=en

Your journal entry is now added to the blog in a tidy, neat way!  Thanks for doing it this way, I really think this is the best way to keep things organized.  And like I said, if this is way to confusing for you, simply e-mail the document to me and I will upload it to the blog for you!

p.s. you can always download the document once you have opened it on it's personal web page.

Pictures

Please label any post with pictures in it "Pictures"  If you are posting a story and have a picture that goes with the story, you can add two labels, one for "stories," and one for "pictures".  That way they show up in both places!

Here is a tutorial on how to add pictures to a post https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/41641?hl=en

Memories

This is the label for memories.  Make sure that you label any post that is a memory of yours with the label "Memories"

Stories

This is the label for stories about the Bigler Family.

Tutorial One: Posting to the blog and adding labels.

This is a great guide for figuring out how to create a new post and post it to the blog.  Click this link and it will teach you all you need to know on how to create the post.  https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/41378?hl=en

Blogger just adds posts chronologically, not by category, so each post will be added to the endless scroll of posts on the home page. In order to keep things organized, you need to label your posts.  If you look to the right side of the 'new post' page, (where you type your post) you will see a button called "labels" make sure and add what kind of label your post is, so that the blog stays nice and tidy.  Here are the categories for the labels:
       Stories
       Memories
       Pictures
       Journals
       Family News
       Family Contacts
       Other
Separate your labels by commas, and blogger will take care of the rest.  If you are confused, here is a great tutorial on how to create a label. https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/44498?hl=en

The labels for each kind of post are listed at the top of the home page.  That way when you want to see something specific, you can click on the link the the label, and see all of the posts that are labeled "stories"

Welcome!

Welcome Bigler Family!  I am so excited to start this blog and bring our family closer together!  Like the description says, this is a blog where our family can share stories, pictures, and memories of growing up in the Bigler clan!  Aunt Ann initiated this blog as a way to make Grandma Bigler's journals available to the entire family.  Grandma kept a journal for years, and when she passed away she left behind a legacy written in her journals.
Please feel free to read and share our stories.  If you would like to contribute, simply send me your e-mail address and I can add you as an author to the blog and then you can share what you want with the rest of us!  You must have a g-mail address/account to be able to be an author of the blog.  If you don't have one, you can set one up by clicking on this link and then following the instructions.

This is also a great place to share exciting news of what is happening in our family currently as well!

This is such a wonderful way to keep in contact and to share our family history.  The Bigler family is a strong family, and I have always been so proud to know that I am a part of it!

Before you start contributing please read through the "Tutorial One" post.  It is under the label "Tutorials"  It will teach you all you need to know about adding a new post, as well as how the blog is going to stay organized!
